In 2011, Toei released their 35th Anniversary
Super Sentai Series, called
Kaizoku
Sentai Gokaiger. Because it was the 35th
anniversary series, they wanted to make it something really
special. So, in the series the pirate rangers have pirated
the powers of all the 34 previous super sentai powers before
them. This means that they can (and do) change at
will into any of the rangers that came before them, including
Battle Fever J!! What's so exciting about it, is
that for many of the older series, the special effects are way
better than the technology they had in their time, and also
since this series is broadcast in HD, everything looks even
better than it did in the original series. It's the same
as watching the HD Remastered Star Trek, with its CGI rendered
USS Enterprise, everything just looks even better than the
original run. Even the suit actors and stunt men,
meticulously recreate the movements of the original rangers.
But even more amazing than that, is that they were able
to get at least one veteran actor from each of the 34 series to
reprise their roles and guest star in the Gokaiger series.
So, Ohba Kenji, reprised his role as Battle Kenya for the first
time in over 30 years! All of this made Kaizoku
Sentai Gokaiger a ridiculously exciting series to
watch!! Many fathers, who watched the older series
in their youth, would sit down to watch this series with their
children, just as I did with mine. It was something
truly cross-generational.
